Almost 80% of search engine rankings don’t even depend on having a website.
As you may have noticed while searching online, many businesses — including many insurance agencies — still have no website and rely exclusively on directories and social media to get found.
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a website. You’ll rank higher if you do.
But here’s a surprise. Maybe not that much higher.
Based on its latest annual survey of Local Search Ranking Factors for 2015, Moz estimated the importance of a website in determining local SEO rankings was 20.3%. In other words, about 80% of getting found on the internet doesn’t even depend on having a website!
So what does getting your agency found on the internet mostly depend on?
The vast majority of local SEO depends on having high quality directory listings and social media links.
Even if you have a website, sometimes customers will choose to go to your Facebook, Google Places or Yelp account if they see it turn up in a search.
For one thing, they’re familiar with the navigation of those sites and know how to quickly find a lot of the information they’re looking for.
More importantly they can read your reviews.
Are you listed in the best local directories? Do you have social media accounts? Are you taking full advantage of all the enrichments afforded by these listings?
Constant Contact did a survey of small business owners and found that though 85% of them thought local search apps and directories were important, fewer than half had ever updated their listings. Half of the business owners knew they had inaccurate listings but most felt they didn’t have time to update them.
There are probably about ten essential directories and social media apps you should be listed in, but there are at least 50 others that might help get you found online, too. So it’s a lot of stuff to update.
That’s one reason Smarts is offering digital presence management for $499 per year.
