It’s the Wild West out there when it comes to agency video blogs (vlogs).
Ryan Hanley got the agent video blog movement rolling a few years ago. When he worked for the Murray Group in Albany, NY, he posted 100 videos in 100 days. That helped him make his mark as an insurance marketing innovator. After starting a blog introducing agents to the marketing potential of new media, Ryan moved on to become a consultant and a blogger and podcaster at TrustedChoice.com. https://www.agencynation.com/
Every agent video blogger I’ve seen has a different style.
Some guys just sit at their desks and read the same text they publish on their blog. Like Kevin Cronin at Cronin Insurance in Boca Raton. He’s pretty smooth at this. https://www.cronininsurance.com/blog/auto/how-to-insure-a-teen-driver
Video definitely increases engagement since a lot of people prefer to listen and watch, not read.
“Agent Nick” Bader at the Lademan Insurance Agency in Michigan ad libs his video posts. He talks about how much money his agency has saved people and he likes to dream up contests. He posts his videos to his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Insurancenickb/. Agent Nick seems to be doing well. His agency just moved to new offices, which he’ll show you in a video.
Then there’s Joey Giangola.
Joey’s niche is the Ohio individual health care market. It’s got its challenges.
Every year Joey feels everybody’s pain when he presents “The Best Ohio Health Insurance Plans [of the year].” http://www.giangolainsurance.com/blog/best-ohio-health-insurance-plans-2017
If you prefer to read instead of watch, Joey provides a text version. But you gotta watch him though because Joey’s deadpan delivery is pretty funny.
Joey says “Figuring out what the ‘best’ plan is can feel like trying to hold water in a pasta strainer. ”
You get that Joey is pretty upfront right away when you see the Fender Stratoscaster hanging on the wall behind him in every video. Not a bunch of insurance sales awards or pictures of himself shaking hands with celebrities and politicians. A Stratocaster guitar.
Joey also posts his videos to YouTube. His most popular post is “PPO vs. HMO: What’s the Difference and Which is Better,” with 12,293 views.
Is video a good choice for you? The stats on video are pretty compelling:
- 59% of executives would rather watch video than read text.
- 92% of video consumers share videos with others.
- 1/3rd of all online activity is spent watching video
Plus their fun. These guys all look they’re having fun anyway.
Which is the nice thing about video. It communicates authenticity so well. Your fans will love you.
